Walking past this restaurant and asked if we could just grab a beer only, the staff was so lovely to us we decided to not worry about the review score and eat also after checking the menu. So glad we did this was simply the best Indian food we have ever eaten, and that’s saying something as we have eaten a lot. Chicken tikka was absolutely perfect and flavourful like nothing I have eaten before. My wife asked if they could make a mixed vegetable curry with “normal spice” and they did, it was super spicy but not crazy, full of flavour and we used all the Roti and Naan bread soaking up that sauce. Do yourself a favour, forget the google score and try this place, far better than the one close by that everyone seems to go to.Forgot to add the beers were super cold and fresh. Update with second visit. We tried the famed Tandori chicken with the guarantee if it’s no good it’s free. I told the owner that guarantee is useless as nobody could ever not like it, he laughed and said smart man. Tried the house white wine which is a very nice wine from Chile and for Australians it’s very hard to get decent wine in Asia, this was good and reasonably priced. Next time we are back will be straight to this place for dinner. The owner introduced me a a lady staff member that’s worked for him for 25 years, that’s says something, again cannot speak highly enough of this place and if you mark it down you are either nit picking or a fake review.

On 9th August 2025, we had the pleasure of celebrating my father’s birthday at Kashmir Restaurant. This visit was extra special as my father had worked there as a part-time staff almost 30 years ago. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. The owner, Mr Mohan, warmly welcomed us and graciously ordered their bestselling dishes for us to try. Each dish was absolutely delicious-flavourful, aromatic, and uniquely prepared, offering a taste that stood out from the usual North Indian food we’ve experienced at other restaurants. It was a wonderful dining experience filled with nostalgia, excellent hospitality, and unforgettable food. We truly enjoyed our time and will certainly return in the future.

One of the better spots in town for tandoori chicken, the meats are well-charred, smoky, and confidently executed. The curries, however, sit just a notch above average; enjoyable, but not quite memorable. Be prepared for prices that lean heavily on the higher side, which may not entirely match the overall experience. The dining area can also get rather noisy, with little in the way of sound insulation, so conversations tend to compete with the ambient clatter. It’s somewhat ironic that a restaurant named “Khasmir” does not feature Rogan Josh, a staple one would almost expect without question. Still, if pricing is not a concern, it remains one of the more reliable North Indian options in town.

The tandoori chicken is juicy and flavorful though the size is a bit too small to fulfill the appetite after first bite. The Kashmir naan taste really good too.

Hands down the best chicken tandoori I’ve had. Full of flavour, super juicy, and just perfectly done. The mutton ribs are another must-order the marinade, the tenderness, the flavours… everything is spot on. Every time I come here, these two dishes are non-negotiable. They’re that good, and I always end up wanting more! Highly recommended.

Tonight we felt like an Indian Tandoori meal, and took the advice of a local, who gave a choice of 3 different restaurants. We settled at Kashmir, as it was close by, and the reviews were mixed. We were met at the door by the owner and his staff, and greeted with much laughter. There is a sign outside that says, this is the best Tandoori chicken in the world. So, challenge accepted. Once inside, the owner made many suggestions of what dishes to have, to complement what we were intending to order, and that’s fair enough. The tandoori chicken was very tender, and tasty, as well as the lamb rib/cutlet. Just a word to the wise, read the menu prices for the lamb, as it may come as a shock later. The curries we had included a daal, sizzling chicken and a prawn vindaloo. The vindaloo was a touch too salty, but that was rectified by the kitchen. Also, the yogurt and mint condiments were very good, and complimented the taste. The meal ended with a complimentary sweet each, that was nice. The heat of the spice I quite liked, but for those who cannot eat hot spice curry, please tell the kitchen for a milder version. I also need to compliment the wait staff, and the head madam, all very good people. My only criticism is that the meal was very expensive for Indian cuisine, given that this type meal is expensive in Australia. Not quite what we expected in Penang, given the level of competition around. Having said that, the meal was very tasty. Just make sure you pick from the menu, and make your own choices.
